Small Business Saturday

On November 19, with the help of Commissioner Fish, Mayor Hales proclaimed ‘Portland Celebrates Small Business Saturday’ on November 29. Each member of City Council also signed Venture Portland’s ‘Portland Celebrates Small Holiday Pledge’, committing to do their holiday shopping in Portland’s neighborhood business districts this year.

“Our neighborhood small businesses are the backbone of Portland’s economy,” said Commissioner Fish, City Council liaison to Venture Portland. “There is no better time than during the Holiday season to support our small business community by shopping local.”

Camron Doss, District Director of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), supported shopping local and highlighted Small Business Saturday Night; SBA’s partnership with the National Restaurant Association to encourage dining out on Small Business Saturday. Mr. Doss was joined by neighborhood business district leaders Matthew Mičetić of Foster Area Business Association, Nicole Whitesell of Beaumont Business Association and Will Cervarich of Little Boxes who spoke about the importance of supporting small businesses and highlighted some of the festive events happening in neighborhood business districts this season.
