Portland Celebrates Small – National Small Business Week April 29-May 5
98% of Portland’s 19,200 neighborhood businesses have 5 or fewer employees but provide more than 270,000 jobs. These small businesses create and keep more local jobs for our neighbors and support our community by donating to local causes at twice the rate of national chains. And that’s not all – they also contribute more than $100 million in taxes annually, helping to fund essential city services like firefighters and parks. In Portland, SMALL is really BIG!
For the entire month of May Venture Portland is celebrating the small businesses that make Portland Portland. So come on Portland! Join us in supporting the small businesses that contribute to the livability of our city and power Portland’s economy on a daily basis. Look for ‘Portland Celebrates Small’ signs in business windows across the city and stop in to show your support. Remember, when you shop at a neighborhood business, 70% of every dollar you spend stays in the local economy.
National Small Business Week is a celebration of our nation’s 30 million small businesses, which create 2 out of every 3 net new jobs and account for about 50 percent of all private-sector jobs in the United States. Through awards ceremonies, media interviews and community events, the U.S. Small Business Administration honors the entrepreneurs who contribute so much to our communities.
Business districts city wide are joining in the celebration with special deals and promotions. You can show your love by displaying a ‘Portland Celebrates Small’ sign in your window or taking some photos at your favorite neighborhood business and telling us all about it on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
