The Portland Immigrant is a community-based project directed by the Parkrose Community Foundation. A grass roots capital campaign was launched in 2010 and funds were privately raised to commission and construct the bronze statue and its site.The annual award is presented to a deserving worthy candidate who exemplifies the courage to leave their native country to endure the hardships of beginning a new life in America for themselves and their next generations.
