Tequila, the well-known Mexican spirit, has been around for centuries, which is plenty of time for a few good tall tales to surface. Even casual consumers are realizing that tequila can be as “craft” as any high-end scotch or brandy, and tequila bars are becoming popular. The beloved margarita is a staple and Eater Portland shared some recommendations as to where to find an enticing margarita. National Tequila Day is a great way for us to celebrate the drinkable art coming from our southern neighbor, and here are the best places to do so in Portland:
- Brooklyn: Oh my, Holy Ghost! If you love craft cocktails, look no further. This place has the Agave Social Club where regulars get treats for trying out new tequilas and mezcals—either as straight pours or cocktails.
- Central Eastside: Although it is known for its whiskey selection, Scotch Lodge has a fantastic array of tequilas and creative cocktails.
- Foster: You can taste your way across Latin America at the Portland Mercado! In addition to the 18 businesses serving up food and drink from Latin America, the public market also hosts art and cultural events to celebrate Latin history and heritage. Well known for their brunch, Bar Carlo also serves up margaritas, tacos, and more in the evenings.
