Pick Up a Locally Made Pie During Pizza Month

While Americans may not agree on everything, one thing is certain–everyone loves pizza. So much so that we dedicate the entire month of October to the delectable dish. While Portland once lagged behind many of its peers in the pizza department, these days there are plenty of places in town that would give New York or Chicago a run for their money. Celebrate National Pizza Month with a trip (or three) to your favorite neighborhood purveyor of pies. We have listed a few below to get you started.

  • Central Eastside: Dimo’s Apizza is New Haven style, meaning it is cooked in an extremely hot oven and literally burnt to a crisp! That is what makes it so delicious. They have a clam pizza that everyone raves about, so get on over there and try it.
  • Foster: Pizzeria Otto has 2 locations in Portland and offers top-notch traditional soft-crust Neapolitan pies, fresh local salads, craft beer, and excellent wines in a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere.
  • Greater Brooklyn: Meta Pizza takes their district so seriously that they offer Brooklyn, New York-style pizza right here in Portland! Primarily for takeout, they also have a cute curbside patio!
  • Hawthorne: Open daily, until sold out, you don’t want to miss the pies at Apizza Scholls! They have arcade games and a no-nonsense approach to making delicious pizza that Portland simply loves.
  • Hollywood: Sizzle Pie is a Portland staple and hosts a never-ending pizza party at all of their many locations. They have been voted best pizza in Portland a number of times and continue to be a PDX favorite!
  • Kerns: Named the 2nd best pizza IN THE WORLD by Big7 Travel, Ken’s Artisan Pizza, is a must-try pizza joint. They also have a bakery in the Northwest District!
  • Lents: Like a spotless 1950’s service station, Humdinger brings back real customer service and pizza with a smile! They offer a family-friendly environment and a giant 24-inch pie! If you can eat the entire thing in one sitting you get a prize and they will take a photo of you for Instagram.
  • Midway: Stumptown Cuisine is a Midway favorite! A family-owned business that is proud to serve quality pizza using only the freshest and best quality ingredients. The dough is handmade fresh every morning and they partner with Gräńde Cheese Company for their only source of cheese.
  • Mississippi Ave: Blanketed in fresh greens, foraged flowers, wild mushrooms, and distinctive vegetables, Lovely’s Fifty Fifty is a family-owned restaurant that was featured on Netflix’s 2022 “Chef’s Table: Pizza!” They are known for their seasonal pies and sourdough crust.
  • Montavilla: Known for their Detroit-style pizza, East Glisan Pizza is an all-time favorite spot for pizza in Portland. Don’t forget to pop in on a Sunday to try their Lasagna–they even make it to-go to be baked at home. Get it before it is gone!
  • Multnomah Village: What started as an open-air traveling pizza oven became a cozy, relaxed pizzeria in SW Portland. Tastebud specializes in wood-fired pizza, bagels, and all kinds of Italian delicacies.
  • St. Johns: Located in a vintage gas station with outdoor seating, Signal Station Pizza has been loved by the community since they opened in 2006. Bring the whole family to this fun destination that is a perfect place for a gathering or party.
  • Stadium District: The slow-fermented crust at Pizza Kat develops an incredible flavor that’s pretty hard to beat. There are plenty of vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options here, along with a rotation of special, one-off pizzas using local, seasonal ingredients.
  • Williams District: Wood-fired and cooked to perfection, Life of Pie is known for being one of the best happy hour locations in PDX! $8 pizza? Yes, please!
