Portland Sandwich Week Is Happening Right Now! Let’s Eat Local!

Who doesn’t love an amazing sandwich? By far one of America’s favorite foods, sandwiches have endless possibilities and flavors. Monday kicked off the Portland Mercury’s Sandwich Week and there is no better way to get out into the business districts to support local businesses other than seeking out a yummy hand-held bite. From Monday, February 19 to Sunday, February 25 you can visit your favorite participating shops, or even newfound spaces on their amazing list, to enjoy a delicious sandwich for only $8! Sandwich Week takes a ton of work—especially from Portland’s beloved servers, cooks, and bartenders! Let ’em know you appreciate it with not only kindness, but especially with money. Tips go a long way!  Check out the entire list here and consider visiting some of our favorite sandwich shops below:

  • Beaumont: This shop isn’t participating in the official event this week, but Grand Central Bakery is one of Portland’s favorite sandwich shops and had to be on this list! Their bread and sandwiches are out this world!
  • Brooklyn: Known as a local distillery that focuses on producing the best homemade cocktails in the PNW, 503 Distilling is offering an Anthony Bourdain themed sandwich for this special week!
  • Central Eastside: This bustling eatery serves Italian-inspired local, organic, seasonal, sustainable fare. Clarklewis is offering a lightly smoky, slightly sweet, messy, and delicious sandwich this week that is inspired by the chef’s childhood in the South.
  • Foster Area: Bodega PDX offers a true stop & shop experience with total convenience. No trip is complete, however, without one of their house-made subs. Meat lovers and vegetarians alike will find something delicious from their menu, though you can build your own, too.
  • Hawthorne: “Rocking an ancient charcuterie moniker that truly serves as a harbinger of things to come, Lardo is a sandwich shop that worships at the altar of bovine.” With that description, how could you not consider trying their special this week called “New Jersey Hangover”?
  • Lents: Bella’s Italian Bakery is another shop not on the list, but we needed to make sure you are aware of this woman-owned Italian salsamenteria. Their sandwiches and pastries are delizioso!
  • Lloyd: Located in the Hyatt, Spoke & Fork is known for PNW wines, cocktails, brews, and also delicious cuisine in an energetic ambiance. They are offering a Baked Ziti sandwich with a description that has us curious to try it!
  • Midway: Stumptown Cuisine is a family-owned restaurant whose menu features a range of Italian comfort foods and quick bites, with a focus on delicious Philly Cheesesteaks sandwiches, subs, calzones, and pizzas.
  • Mississippi Ave: Everyone loves a Cuban sandwich and where better to satisfy your craving than El Cubo? They aren’t on this week’s special list but their flavors are so special all year long you must try!
  • Montavilla: The Venture Portland team can attest to the deliciousness of Secret Pizza Society‘s special this week! We had it at yesterday’s staff meeting. A perfect vegan spin on a classic favorite, titled Bánh…James Bánh.
  • Multnomah Village: John’s Marketplace has created a rich curry chicken salad sandwich made with chicken, celery, red onion, apples, grapes, pecans, served with a layer of fresh arugula on a toasted ciabatta bun. Creamy curry and a crunch of fresh ingredients in one perfect bite? Yes, please!
  • St John’s: Speaking of Bánh Mí sandwiches, Báhn Mí Up transformed the traditional Vietnamese beef stew, Bò Kho, and turned it into Vietnamese-style sloppy joes. Yes please!
  • Williams District: Migration Brewing is offering their special sandwich “For Schnitz and Giggles”! This open-layout, popular brewery is a great spot for the entire family.

This list is non-exhaustive. If you get out there and eat a great sandwich on the list this week, please post a picture and tag us and #portlandsandwichweek on Instagram and Facebook.
