Shop Local Deals While Supporting Local Causes on Giving Tuesday

Giving Tuesday is here and neighborhood business districts are filled with the spirit of kindness and generosity – as well as holiday decorations, festive events, and everything you need to make the season merry and bright.

Portland’s family of neighborhood business districts actively support neighborhood causes at twice the rate of national chains and show their gratitude to the Portlanders who keep them in business. Thank you for your continued support. This holiday season we hope you will take a moment to recognize the dedication of Portland’s small business owners, plan a visit to one (or many!) of the City’s 50 neighborhood business districts, and discover why they make Portland a world-class city. Here are a few ideas for giving back at your favorite neighborhood businesses while also finding the perfect gifts for everyone on your list:

  • Columbia Corridor: Oregon Humane Society is hosting a Community Pet Food Bank for pet owners in need on Tuesday, 11/30, 1-4 p.m. Pet food, cat litter and other supplies will be available.
  • Division/Clinton: For the month of December, Green Zebra Grocery is supporting Oregon Food Bank! Customers can donate in-store at the register or when they place an online order.
  • Gateway: Donate $10 or more to support the important work of IRCO and be entered to win a prize from Give!Guide.
  • Kenton: Posies has partnered Native American Youth and Family Center to collect gifts for Native teens in foster care or who are experiencing homelessness through 12/15.
  • Lents: Every dollar spent in donations to Green Lents will help continue to provide the community with education, outreach, and a local tool lending library. Each contribution is aimed at helping sustainability within the neighborhood.
  • Mississippi Ave: Businesses are donating 10% of sales to Self Enhancement Inc. during Giving Tuesday. Look for this flyer at participating businesses.

  • NW Industrial: Lift UP is partnering with the NW Industrial Business Association for a food drive for Northwest and Downtown Portland communities through 12/16. For each $5 donation, Lift UP will provide 15 meals worth of healthy, nutritious produce and shelf-stable items.
  • Old Town: The Portland Chinatown Museum is participating in Giving Tuesday, 11/30. Support this community and cultural resource with a tax deductible donation at  portlandchinatownmuseum.org.
  • St. Johns: This year’s annual Christmas Tree Sale will benefit St. Johns Swap and Play. Use this coupon at the Peninsula Optimist Club on Lombard and Chautauqua and St. Johns Swap and play will receive a $10 donation.
  • Williams District: Williams Gives participating businesses will be donating 10% of sales to Self Enhancement Inc. to purchase holiday gifts for underserved youth.

This list is non-exhaustive so you can find more opportunities to give back in Willamette Week’s Give Guide. Don’t forget you can always support Portland’s 50 neighborhood business districts with a contribution to Venture Portland. It is a gift that keeps on giving all year long!
