August is the 16th annual National Black Business Month (NBBM), an observance that highlights the importance of Black owned businesses to our communities as well as our national economy. There are more than 2.6 million Black owned businesses in the US that generate $150 Billion in revenue. In Portland, Black owned businesses can be found in business districts City wide offering everything from critically acclaimed food to passionate professional services. - Alberta: Fuel Café serves modern comfort food with a focus on organic ingredients; Green Muse is a dispensary influenced by art, science, music, sports and fashion.
- 82nd Avenue: Catfish Lane serves scratch-made Louisiana-style cuisine; TCC & Associates performs civil engineering, surveying, land development planning and construction management; Diamond in the Rough Hair Spa specializes in natural hair and organic, hand crafted hair care products.
- Division/Clinton: Barbershop Worldwide provides consistent quality haircuts for all textures of hair and hairstyles; Bete Lukas and Abyssinian Kitchen both serve Ethiopian cuisine including salad, tibs, alicha, vegetarian dishes, and sambusas.
- Foster Area: Green Box is a local and family-owned Cannabis subscription and on-demand delivery service; Like Dat Apparel is a custom printing company specializing in screen printed apparel, web/logo design, airbrush, heat press, and vinyl; Mathilde’s Kitchen caters events with Haitian Caribbean food and their Hibiscus/Ginger Brew can be found at New Seasons, Market of Choice and Co-ops.

- St. Johns: Jamaica House is a Jamaican restaurant in a converted house with a brightly-decorated interior serving jerk and curries.
- Williams District: Billy Webb Elks Lodge offers a bar and lounge, a ballroom that has seen at least 50 weddings in the past decade, and upstairs meeting rooms.
- On-line: Barreled Bee specializes in barrel-aged honey available online or at Freeland Spirits, Abbey Creek Winery and Derby Kenton; Creole Me Up specializes in producing organic, allergen-free, and overall healthy Haitian food products, catering services and teaching Haitian cooking; North Star Forward Consulting works with organizations and individuals to develop and foster policies, practices, and procedures to proactively interrupt systemic oppression.
