Halloween is just a few days away! Neighborhood businesses are hosting family-friendly fun that will have you screaming with delight. As trick or treating makes it triumphant return, you can also get your kicks with costume contests, pumpkin carving, scavenger hunts and more. This year make your Halloween magical by shopping local. Here are a few safe ways to get into the spirit of Halloween while supporting small businesses.

  • Alberta: Come on out for the annual Trick or Treat on Alberta Street! On 10/31 from 3:30-6pm, businesses with posters in their windows will be handing out candy. Be one of the first 500 to stop by in costume at the Alberta Main Street offices and IQ Credit Union table and pick up a special edition Trick or Treat bag!
  • Beaumont: Don your scariest mask and visit  Pic or Treat in the Mathnasium/Wild Hearts Wellness parking lot. Enter the haunted tunnel (if you dare) and enter the costume photo contest.
  • Central Eastside: So the community can come together safely to celebrate Day of the Dead, Cargo has once again created an offerenda. Visit the altar and add photos of your loved ones, this Thursday-Sunday from 11-5pm.
  • Foster Area: On 10/31, Portland Mercado will have kids activities, a movie, and trick or treating for kiddos from 4-8 pm. On the next day, 11/1, they host their Día De Muertos celebration with live music, a Mariachi, poetry performances, and free champurrado!
  • Gateway: Enter the Fall-O-ween giveaway event now thru 10/30. Shop at one or all of the participating small businesses and follow to @gatewaybusinesspdx, tagging a picture of your purchase, to enter to win gift cards.
