The Willamette Valley is recognized as one of the premier wine-growing regions in the world and is home to two-thirds of Oregon’s wineries. That is why it is no surprise that Portland is home to more than 30 wineries and countless bars and restaurants with wine lists that will impress even the most seasoned sommelier. February 18th was National Drink Wine Day so this week we are bringing you some of our favorite spots around town to get a great glass (or bottle!) of vino.

  • Beaumont: Blackbird Wine Shop is a cute neighborhood emporium offering French, Spanish, and local wines by the glass, plus gourmet cheeses and meat products.
  • Central Eastside: Over the past ten years, Helioterra Owner, Anne Hubatch has developed relationships with extraordinary grape growers throughout the Pacific Northwest, creating wines that honor the fruit and the people who grow it, without limiting herself to any particular style or type of wine.
  • Division/Clinton: Division Wines is a curated shop focusing on small-production wines, sakes, sherries, and ciders, plus a selection of charcuterie and small bites.
  • Foster: Level up your grocery run with a trip to Bread and Roses Market, where you can grab a quality bottle of wine with their well-curated assortment of produce, food, and other grocery items. If you’re looking to lounge a little bit with a glass (or bottle to-go) of something locally sourced, Portland Wine Company is just north of Foster and has an excellent vibe and selection.
  • Hillsdale: Sip City Spirits has wines from the Pacific Northwest, California, and Europe are featured along with an assortment of vermouth and aperitifs, including Carpano Antica Formula, Cocchi, Lillet, Dolin, Noilly Pratt, and Martini & Rossi.
  • Greater Brooklyn: Hip Chicks Do Wine is Portland’s oldest urban winery! They are known for hosting regular events in their industrial space.
  • Mississippi Ave: Stem Wine Bar is celebrating Oregon Wine Month with specials and featured wines from across Oregon. The owner, Wei-En, is even available for tarot readings for those with burning questions!
  • Montavilla: Wander over to NE Glisan and check out one of the newer spots on the street called Replicant, a tap room, wine bar & bottle shop with vegan food, plus DJ nights and more!
  • NE Broadway: Established in 1984, Great Wine Buys is Portland’s oldest independent wine shop. They stock over 1,500 wines from the world’s top wine regions, including more than 400 from some of the best (and rarest) wineries.
  • NW Industrial: Bodecker Cellars specializes in small lot, terroir-driven Pinot Noirs and is Co-owned by Athena Pappas, who studied wine-making at UC Davis and Chemeketa CC.
  • St. Johns: 45th Parallel Wines is a retail bottle shop and wine bar with an emphasis on highlighting unique wines from all corners of Oregon. They primarily work with independent, sustainably-minded producers.
  • Williams District: Ora et Labora firmly believes that drinking wine is about more than sensory engagement. It is an intellectual, critical exploration of all that goes into a glass. Their beautiful space is a great spot for a glass, bottle, or more! And, for more than 20 years, GC Wines has sourced fruit from growers in Oregon and Washington who have committed to sustainable, organic, and sensible farming. Check out their tasting room!
