Stay Cool and Eat Ice Cream at These Local Businesses!

I scream, you scream, WE ALL SCREAM FOR ICE CREAM! This hot, summer weather has us all in the mood for a scoop of America’s favorite dessert. Portland has a plethora of incredible spots for ice cream and other related forms of cold, sweet treats. July is National Ice Cream Month, so we thought we would share some recommendations for where to get a scoop.

  • Alberta: Salt and Straw needs no intro. This uber-famous ice cream parlor is known for its unique flavors and collaborations with other local businesses. They have locations in NW, on Division, and all over outside of Oregon!
  • Beaumont: Into froyo over ice cream? Nectar is a locally owned, frozen yogurt lounge where you can try a large variety of constantly rotating flavors (including vegan and dairy-free options) and dozens of toppings while enjoying a lounge atmosphere
  • Central Eastside: Bell + Cow prides themselves on delivering Oregon dairy-sourced, rBST free, and gluten-free frozen delights to the entire Portland Metro Area without melting. They have rotating flavors that are infused with fresh frozen berries and other fresh fruit.
  • Foster: Opened by the team from Thunderbird just last year, St Francis Ice Cream is a new and trendy spot slinging dairy and vegan flavors ranging from mango habanero to strawberry cheesecake.
  • Hillsdale: From their baseball-helmet sundaes to their home-baked cookies, Dairy Hill offers a nostalgic feel and a welcoming environment that savors timeless favorites such as shakes, malts, banana splits, ice cream cakes, and their specialty, handmade ice cream sandwiches.
  • Lloyd/NE Broadway: Eb and Bean makes dairy and plant-based frozen yogurt and soft serve, with creative toppings and craveable sauces. Their flavors are inspired by the seasons and rotate frequently!
  • Mississippi: Kate’s Ice Cream is known for being pastel-colored, plant-based and absolutely delicious! From pistachio to cotton candy ice cream to cookies and brownies, everything is vegan and gluten-free.
  • Montavilla: If you love strawberries, then you have to head over to Zucker Creme to check out their Strawberry Museum and other cool pop-up events that happen throughout the year. Get a scoop or a treat while you are there.
  • St. Johns: Gracie’s Apizza owner Craig Melillo’s passion for ice cream rivals his skills as a pizzaiolo. Like his pizzas, his ice cream flavors change often based on what’s available from Oregon and Washington farms, as well as his own creative whims.
  • Williams District: Every batch of ice cream, kulfi, and ice pops made at Kulfi is done with a labor of love, carefully crafted by hand in their shop. Their recipes are a tribute to culture, tradition, and cherished memories, celebrating a fusion of flavors as first-generation South Asians.
